This ABF website utilises WordPress content management system which sets a high standard of accessibility for people who are blind or who are vision impaired.
The developer of this website is blind himself and relies on WordPress being fully accessible. Currently the website is known to work well using the latest versions of the Firefox and Chrome browsers with the NVDA and JAWS screen readers, and also using the Safari iPhone browser with the VoiceOver screen reader.
The main links for moving to different sections are at the top of each page. If you are using a device with a relatively small screen or window size, you may instead find a button that says “show menu”. Just activate this button in your usual way and the links should appear. This approach is becoming more common on today’s websites, because it means that the main navigation links don’t always have to take up a lot of space on a small screen or window. You can just start reading the content and bring up the navigation links when you need them.
On every page, the first heading is the start of the main content. So if you are using JAWS or NVDA, and for most other screen readers, simply going to the top of the page and pressing h will take you to the start of the main content for that page. In fact the h key is useful because it will also take you to the start of any other articles like news items that may be on the page. Or if you are using Safari on an iPhone or similar touch screen, then use the rotor to switch to headings, and a simple swipe down will take you to each heading on the page.
Any articles we add will also appear in short form on the home page. So if you visit the website from time to time, just browse the home page to see what has been added since your last visit.
Despite our best efforts, with the variety of devices in use nowadays, it is not uncommon for some people to find things don’t work as expected. If you are having difficulties using the website then we would like to hear from you. You will find a link to email the website administrator at the foot of each page. Please use it to email us with the details of your problem, and please remember to also describe what equipment you are using.
